ISSUE:

Should the District conduct an Independent Reading/Literacy Evaluation at public expense?

SUMMARY AND PROCEDURAL HISTORY:

The Student has been identified as entitled to receive a free and appropriate public education as defined in IDEA 20 U.S.C. §1401 et seq. and Connecticut General Statute §10-76a et seq.

At a planning and placement team (PPT) meeting, the Parents were in disagreement with the District’s reading specialist conducting a reading/literacy evaluation. The Parents requested an Independent Reading/Literacy Evaluation. The Board refused the Parents’ request and filed for due process.

An impartial hearing officer was appointed on May 4, 2018. The Parents advised the District of their withdrawal of the matter, and in an electronic transmission the District withdrew their request for due process.

The date for the mailing the Final Decision and Order is July 18, 2018.

FINAL DECISION AND ORDER:

THE MATTER IS DISMISSED.
